The seventh annual Film and Moving Image (FMI) Awards took place Sunday, April 14 and provided an opportunity for Stevenson’s own filmmakers to be recognized for their hard work throughout 2024. The evening included eight award categories given to an all-time high of 13 student short films shown.

Award categories included Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, and Best Documentary. Everyone had the opportunity to enjoy films such as “My Real Parents” by Zhanna Snyder, “Script Run” by Ian Bair,  or “Son” by Preston Speight. There were so many great films that captivated audiences that it was difficult to choose between nominees, but only a few went home with a trophy.

Every film drew reactions from audience members whether it was laughter, sadness, interest, or complete shock. “Revisionist History,” by Hannah Sobieck with help from four classmates, seemed like a fast fan-favorite taking home three awards on Sunday night for the film’s amazing acting, intriguing story, and no shortage of laughs.

Snyder’s film “My Real Parents” had the audience invested for a touching story of adoption that brought tears to viewers’ eyes.

“Stalked in Scarlet” by Makayla Berth was another standout, thrilling audiences until the final cut to black.

Sunday night’s FMI Awards were a complete success, demonstrating the creativity and passion that Stevenson student’s have in the department. As the end of the semester approaches, FMI majors and the rest of the Stevenson community can now look forward to 2025 where another great batch of short films and creative projects awaits.
