First-year student De'Asia Housey runs her own business selling her crochet creations
“I learned how to crochet at the beginning of the fall semester. My friend Syiion taught me. He taught me the majority of the basics, and then I learned how to create actual creations from Youtube and TikTok. One of my favorite things that I’ve crocheted is a sunflower coaster. I gave one to my bio lab instructor, Professor D. Hoyle, and her face lit up, and it seemed as though I made her day. This made me happy to know that something I made can bring someone joy. Initially, I didn’t think that crocheting would change my life much, but now I realize that I’ve met more people and become more of an extrovert because of my crochet business. I finally got annoyed hearing my friends and family tell me to start a business, and after realizing that I could make almost anything, I decided to start this business. I want to be able to crochet for more people and advertise my business as much as possible. But honestly, if I could just continue to crochet to make people happy, that’d be a blessing.”
