“The transition was exactly that—a transition. Overall, it worked out really quickly! In my case, the change was needed. I missed a lot of my friends from home, but they were also at colleges further away, so it was a mutual feeling all around. I loved moving in and making my side of the dorm my own. I made it into a place where I could be myself. I enjoy going to Stevenson and being a part of the community by playing in the band and singing in the choir. The community events are also fun! I love connecting with people through paint and game nights. I’ve made a lot of friends so far! The biggest challenge I had was really finding myself. I didn’t have my hometown friends, so it encouraged me to be more friendly and outgoing. Finding your place and yourself in everything new was the hardest challenge, but also the most fun part. I look forward to classes, surprisingly! A lot of my professors are super fun and allow for a lot of flexibility with projects and assignments, making the work enjoyable and engaging. The variety of classes I can take helps me really solidify what I want to do after college. My favorite memories really stem from band. Through a couple weeks of band practice before the year started, I connected with a ton of new faces that are some of my closer friends now! Some of my best memories are goofing around with friends while experiencing the newness of college together.

“My plans as of now are to focus and find out what I really want to do in the career field. I’m looking forward to exploring my options, what I can pursue after I get my education here, and even what I can get while I’m here. From there, as a psych major, I want to be able to really express myself in the field and work on doing the best I can for myself and others. My future self lives securely in a home I can maintain, hopefully with another person by my side. My future self is performing deeper dives into what we know about psychology and the criminal/forensic field. I don’t know what exactly it is about the human spirit and psyche that interests me, but seeing how everyone maintains their individual nature through everything they’ve been through keeps me engaged and interested. I’m interested in a field that caters to that desire to learn! I like to draw and create, and I hope with more knowledge I can really tap into that passion and hobby. I hope I can work on being a better cook too, so I can make good meals for myself and my friends. I hope that, in the future, I’m still fostering creativity. My goals are to create and maintain a stable lifestyle for myself. I want to be secure in material as well as in relationships and really lock into who I am as a person. By exploring my options, I hope to develop all those aspects to reach my goals. I hope they’re able to go hand in hand with my ideals.”
