Lynchburg opened the scoring early, but Stevenson quickly responded, with Gavin Gossen and Grant Zick each finding the net to keep the game tied 2-2. The Hornets, however, closed the first quarter strong, taking a 4-2 lead.

The Mustangs rallied in the second quarter, scoring four of the next six goals. Darrell Curtis and Gossen led the charge, with Curtis putting Stevenson ahead briefly before Lynchburg answered to tie it at 6-6 at halftime.

Stevenson dominated the second half, with Taz Delaney, Max Racich, and Andrew Searing sparking a 4-0 run to take a commanding 10-6 lead heading into the fourth quarter. The Mustangs continued to control the pace, with Racich scoring twice early in the final frame before Bryant and Zick sealed the victory.

Curtis and Bryant led the offense with four-point performances, while Racich recorded a hat trick. Goalkeeper Tyler Merchant anchored the defense with 13 saves as Stevenson secured a decisive 14-8 win.

Stevenson Battles Past St. Lawrence for 11-10 Thriller

In the final game of the Classic, Stevenson faced a tough challenge against No. 12 St. Lawrence. The Saints surged ahead early with a 6-2 lead, but the Mustangs responded with three straight goals before halftime, cutting the deficit to 6-5.

Stevenson carried that momentum into the second half, as Racich scored back-to-back goals to give the Mustangs their first lead of the game at 7-6. The teams traded goals throughout the third quarter, but Stevenson took control with a late push from Bryant and Delaney, taking a 10-8 advantage into the final frame.

St. Lawrence refused to back down, tying the game at 10 with five minutes remaining. However, Curtis delivered in the clutch, netting the game-winner with 3:02 left on the clock. Merchant was a force in goal, making 16 crucial saves to preserve the 11-10 victory.

Zick led the team with four points, while Curtis, Bryant, Gossen, and Racich each contributed multiple goals.

Looking Ahead

With the Classic sweep, Stevenson (6-2) extends its winning streak to three and now prepares for a high-stakes showdown against No. 2 Salisbury on tomorrow at 7 p.m. under the lights of Mustang Stadium.

Men’s lacrosse already is very well aware their schedule is one of the, if not the toughest schedule among division three men’s lacrosse. They will be hosting the No. 2 team in the country. This is their sixth ranked opponent in seven games. But, the team will prepare just like they would any other game. Grant Zick shared the team’s thoughts going into this game.

“You gotta come out, play more guys, understand the time period and just really, really dial in, so that’s kind of what we did, and we wanted to just keep this momentum going forward onto Salisbury next week and hopefully we get a win there.”

Face off is set for 7 p.m at Mustang Stadium. You can stream it here.
