A Different Feeling

For some people, this is just some lacrosse games, for others it is a tournament. Some call it the best division three tournament in the country, next to the NCAA tournament. But for Stevenson’s mens lacrosse head coach Paul Cantabene, this one feels different.

He shared his thoughts in between games one and two on a bright, blue skied filled Friday afternoon at Mustang Stadium.

“I certainly think there is. You know, I think how everybody’s approaching it, its much different. From the foundations approach and the alumni’s approach to it and how all the other coaches have responded to the rebranding has certainly made it a lot different, which I think it’s great.”

Callum’s Lasting Impact

Along with the Mustang Classic being renamed to the Callum Robinson Mustang Classic, there were yellow hats with green number 10 on them. Cantabene elaborated further on that as well.

“Since Callum was from Australia, it is just a tribute to him and doing that and so that’s why we decided to do it, so its not to the foundation or anything, it’s just that, you know, tribute to him from where he came from and celebrating him.”

The Callum & Jake Robinson Foundation came to the classic to not only support the message of the love of Callum & Jake but to also spread awareness about what their foundation is doing to give back to the community.

In the first game of the inaugural Callum Robinson Mustang Classic, Washington & Lee defeated St. Lawrence 12-10 in a hard-fought game. St. Lawerence started strong, leading 3-1 in the first quarter with solid defense, but W&L gained momentum in the second, scoring six unanswered goals to take a 7-3 halftime lead.

RIT continued to impose their will in the second half, extending their lead to 20-4 by the end of the thrid quarter. Dickinson managed to score a few late goals, but RIT remained in complete control, finishing with a commanding 24-7 win. Tufts came out firing in the second half, tying the game quickly before pulling ahead 8-4 by the end of the third quarter, outscoring Hamilton 7-1 in the period. Their offensive momentum continued into the fourth, extending their lead to 12-5. Hamilton fought back late, cutting the deficit to 12-8, but Tufts responded with two more goals in the final minutes to secure the 14-8 victory.
