One of Stevenson University‘s newest clubs is creating unity and helping women on campus build healthy friendships.

The Women of Resilience, Tenacity and Humility, also known as W.O.R.T.H, began in November, 2016. Run and co-founded by president Taraya Pettaway, vice president Dejonna Farrar, treasurer Aleesia Medina, and secretary Daja Nasib, the group wanted to start a leadership club outside of a sorority in which women on campus could find community.

Pettaway, a senior business major, said she and the other co-founders “got together summer of 2016, and agreed there weren’t many options for women on campus other than sororities.” Determined to establish an alternative, they decided on a different structure, more like a sisterhood for women on the Stevenson campus. The club hopes to expand to other schools, universities and high schools alike.

On the last Tuesday of each month, W.O.R.T.H hosts a ‘Cozy Girl Talks’ forum meant to create a comfortable setting for women to talk about issues that pertain to them. W.O.R.T.H encourages anyone who attends to wear comfortable clothing, such as pajamas.

April 25 will be the last Cozy Girl Talks of  the semester. In honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, this forum will be how sexual violence impacts the community. Cozy Girl Talks are open to both men and women and are held in the Ratcliffe Community Center.
