Guests to experience a day in college life

A new event,  “A Day in the Life of the School of Business,” will offer prospective students an opportunity to be a Stevenson University college student in the Brown School of Business and Leadership (SOBL) for a day. This event will be held on Friday, April 26.

According to SOBL professor Dr. Anna Kayes, “The ‘A Day in the Life of the School of Business’ is about showcasing Stevenson University Brown School of Business programs in an innovative format, with a sampling of topics that connect academic content to career skills, which offers future students a preview of the exceptional experiences they will have at Stevenson University.”

The event is new to Stevenson University and will be offered annually to high-school students, particularly juniors and rising seniors. The SOBL leadership team, in conjunction with the Admissions Office, the Office of Student Activities, and SOBL faculty, designed this event to preview what it is like to be a college student in the School of Business for a day.

The schedule will include check in at 9 a.m., a morning social from 9-9:30 a.m., academic sessions from 9:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and a campus tour that includes free lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.

A sampling of some interesting curricular mini-courses include ways to develop and execute a business strategy; hot topics in international business; entrepreneurship: the secret weapon in ‘Shark Tank’; game of frauds: a new perspective; ethics and sustainability in business; building a long-term investment portfolio; using Canva (a user-friendly graphic design tool) to develop social media content; and an introduction to database using Microsoft Access.

According to Hanif Jones, a business administration student, “This event will not only benefit the high-school students with the opportunity to explore the various options Stevenson University provides in the SOBL department, but it will give me the opportunity to work on my leadership skills by helping and teaching the students.”

According to Kayes, “One of the benefits for me personally is in partnering with one of my faculty colleagues, Dr. Mark Arvisais, to design a short hands-on session on how to plan and execute a strategy for a simulated real estate construction company.”
