New Mexican restaurant falls short

Jose Tequila’s, located in Owings Mills Square on Owings Mills Boulevard, is a new Mexican restaurant that serves Mexican cuisine along with a large adult beverage menu.

Jose Tequila’s is located behind Georgia Peach and the ExpressCare in Owings Mills Square, and had its grand opening over the course of Stevenson University’s winter break.

The exterior of the restaurant is beautiful, offering outdoor seating once weather permits. When customers enter Jose Tequila’s, they are greeted by friendly hostesses and plenty of seating along with space in the bar.

The restaurant is split into two seating areas, the dining area and the bar, a good decision since the bar area is much louder than the dining area. Prices at Jose Tequila’s are decent, ranging between $12-18 for entrees and drinks between $8-12.

Servers at Jose Tequila’s are friendly, but lack some training in adequate service. The meals are served in a timely manner; however, waiters often forget about their customers once the entree is served. This could have been due to the Sunday night rush, but it was nevertheless unacceptable.

After placing my order, I didn’t see a server until my entrée was brought out. The Chicken Sour Cream Enchilada ($8.49 for two enchiladas) was a good enough entrée, but the meal lacked adequate seasoning. However, the portion size was suited perfectly to the price of the entrée.  While waiting for my meal, I tried to admire the restaurant’s decor, but I wasn’t able to, due to the high walls of the booth surrounding me. There wasn’t much to look at after being seated except a TV that was entirely too small.

Some of the seating area seemed a bit too crowded  and customers might feel cramped once they are seated. Waiters had to squeeze by the tables and often bumping into guests as they passed.

Outside of Jose Tequila’s is well-lit and offers plenty of parking. The restaurant looks enormous from the outside, but upon entry, the restaurant was small in size. On the other hand, the bar area was set up perfectly, offering seating around the bar and at hightops.

Besides inadequate service and less-than-desirable seating, Jose Tequila’s was immaculately clean and well-lit.

On a scale of 1 to 10, Jose Tequila’s comes in at a 6. The food was decent, but nothing to brag about yet.
