The School of Humanities and Social Sciences will sponsor a week of student-led poster sessions called “Student Showcase Week” at the beginning of May on the Greenspring campus.

The two main poster session showcases are focused on psychology and law majors.

In the Psychology Student Showcase, students will present posters that showcase their research from various classes, internships, field findings and service learning. It will be held from May 2 to 4, from 9-11 a.m., in the Greenspring campus gym.

Showcasing a poster is open to any student who has taken five psychology classes.

Dr. Jeffrey Elliot, psychology department chair, said the poster session helps psychology majors develop professional skills to use in field trainings.

“The showcase helps reflect the various extraordinary experiences for students at Stevenson to prepare them for real-life experience,” said Elliot.

In addition to the psychology poster showcase, the department of law and justice studies will also showcase posters at the Greenspring campus on May 5 from 1:30-2:30 p.m. followed by an awards ceremony from 2:30-3:30 p.m.

Students in the department of law and justice studies will showcase their internships, which benefits other students who are interested in similar internships or work in a particular organization. The awards ceremony will highlight the department of law and justice studies students who have achieved the highest marks in their field. The ceremony will also recognize the Stevenson University Mock Trial teams.

Elliot explained that the department of law and justice studies poster session makes a big difference in helping students develop competitiveness for graduate school.

“This showcase serves to provide a conduit for information for various internship participants, across both legal studies and criminal justice majors. It could potentially make or break a decision for a student to practice a certain discipline of law, a certain type of law, or a certain side of the law. It is an incredibly eye-opening endeavor for all,” explained Norman Greenwell, a rising junior legal studies major.

Anyone who is interested in seeing student research and work may attend either of these showcase and poster sessions throughout the week of April 30 – May 5. Each day will feature different majors within the School of Humanities and Social Science.
