SU Security shares new parking regulations

Stevenson University’s Office of Security oversees the parking arrangements and violations on all of the institution’s campuses.

The university offers all residential and commuter students free parking as long as drivers register their car and present the proper hang tag on their rear-view mirror. Vehicles can be registered at the security desk in the Ratcliffe Community Center on the Owings Mills campus, according to Stevenson.edu.

Residents, commuters, and faculty will receive a parking ticket if they do not follow the designated parking assignments discussed below.

OWINGS MILLS

On the Owings Mills campus, there are five parking lots, each with a specific designation for who can park there.

The parking around the residential buildings are reserved for cars with residential tags only. No commuters or visitors can park in those spots, according to Robert Cordery, Stevenson security staff member. Cordery said that the Rockland parking lot is also only for residents.

The Mustang Stadium parking lot offers spots for residents, commuters, faculty, and visitors, while the Caves parking lot is open only to faculty and commuter parking, according to Stevenson.edu. Stevenson security and the university signage refers to the Mustang Stadium lot as Lot A and the Caves parking lot as Lot B, according to Cordery.

The School of Business parking lot, Lot C, is for authorized faculty members and admissions visitors only. Monday through Friday from 4:30 p.m. to midnight, “properly tagged” commuters and faculty can park in Lot C. The parking lot is also available all day Saturday and Sunday, as long as vehicles are moved by 11:59 p.m. Sunday night, according to Stevenson.edu.

OWINGS MILLS NORTH

Stevenson security does not permit resident students to park at the Owings Mills North campus, except during open parking hours. The designated hours are Monday through Thursday after 5 p.m., Fridays after 2 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., according to Stevenson.edu. Residents can also park at Owings Mills North when specified for special events, such as tailgates, according to Cordery.

Commuters can always park in the Owings Mills North parking lot. If the lot is full, commuter students should park in the Mustang Stadium lot, according to Stevenson.edu. Stevenson faculty can also park at Owings Mills North, according to Cordery.

GREENSPRING CAMPUS

Both resident and commuter students can park in unrestricted parking areas on the Greenspring campus. The restricted parking areas are on Cottage Lane, the administration area, faculty areas, and the visitor areas in the front circle and in the front of Knott Hall, according to Stevenson.edu.

PARKING TICKETS

Students parking in the wrong designated area will receive a $50 parking ticket for each offense, according to Stevenson.edu.

Students who receive a ticket can appeal it within 30 days of the violation. An appeal consists of a copy of the ticket, along with three copies of a typed petition to the security director explaining why the driver committed the offense but should not have to pay the fine, according to Cordery.

The Citation Appeals Board meets and considers the appeals and makes a final decision. Security sends the final decision to the driver who is appealing the violation explaining if the driver still needs to pay the fine, according to Cordery.

More parking information can be found online at the Campus Security parking information site or by visiting the security desk in Ratcliffe.
