Stevenson University’s Homecoming week, from Oct. 15-21, is packed with fun-filled events for students, faculty and the community.
Stevenson University President Elliot Hirshman said, “I am very excited about homecoming week this year. There are an amazing array of events and opportunities. I hope every member of our community will participate and that it will be a great opportunity for students, faculty, staff and alumni in our community to come together as one.”
Here is a summary of this year’s Homecoming week events.
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 15
Stevenson University athletics will host the annual men’s lacrosse Meghan Puls Classic. The game will feature four teams including Stevenson, Virginia Wesleyan College, Franklin & Marshall College and Ursinus College. The first game will begin at 9 a.m. in the Mustang Stadium. Admission is free, but donations to the Meghan Puls Foundation are encouraged.
MONDAY, OCTOBER 16
The highly anticipated Mr. and Ms. SU Pageant will be held at 7 p.m. in the Rockland Banquet room. Each contestant will be put through a series of fun and unique rounds including spirit wear, career wear, lip sync battles and more. Students can get their tickets at “The Rock.”
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 17
The department of film & moving image welcomes Theo Anthony as part of the fall Artist-in-Residence. Anthony is a writer, photographer and film maker based in Baltimore. His films have premiered in multiple film festivals. The reception will be held at 6 p.m. in the School of Design Sound Stage on Owings Mills North.
Men’s soccer will be playing Lebanon Valley, if weather permits, at 7 p.m. at Mustang Stadium. Admission is free and open the public.
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 18
Women’s soccer will be playing Lebanon Valley, if weather permits, at 4 p.m. at Mustang Stadium. Admission is free and open the public.
The forensic symposium will be taking place in the courtroom, in the Brown School of Business and Leadership from 6-8 p.m. The event is for students to gain an understanding of the Internet of Things, the concept of connecting any device be to the internet, and the cyber security dangers surrounding it.
Field hockey will be playing Lebanon Valley, if weather permits, at 7 p.m. at Mustang Stadium. Admission is free and open the public.
Women’s volleyball will be playing Lebanon Valley at 7 p.m. in the Owings Mills gymnasium.
The 70th Birthday Bash, hosted by Mustang Activities and Programming (MAP), will be held from 8-10 p.m. in the Rockland Banquet Room. There will be a caricature artist, a sundae bar, cupcake decorating, student performances, decorate your own t-shirt, giveaways, prizes to win and more. The event is open to all Stevenson students.
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 19
The annual powder puff football game will be held from 7-8 p.m. on the grass field (now called the Lawn) by the edge of the Dell Family Pathway. The event is a flag football game between female students and a battle between the classes.
Women’s volleyball will be playing Johns Hopkins at 7 p.m. in the Owings Mills gymnasium.
The bonfire, if weather permits, will be held from 7:30-9:30 p.m. in the Caves parking lot on the Owings Mills campus. Live performances from student groups on campus are going to be showcased, including Stevenson’s acapella group, All Natural. There will also be sweet treats and giveaways.
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 20
The Stevenson University Golf Open will be held from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Piney Branch Golf Course. This year the annual SU Golf Open, traditionally held in the spring, and the Varsity Golf Alumni Homecoming tournament are combined as an 18 hole, Captain’s Choice event. Tickets for this event can be purchased here. Fast passes sold at registration will include a hole-in-one contest, a longest drive contest, a closest to the pin contest and more.
Men’s soccer will be playing Lycoming, if weather permits, at 7 p.m. at Mustang Stadium. Admission is free and open the public.
Mustang Madness, an introduction to the winter sports, takes place at 7 p.m. in the Owings Mills gymnasium. This even provides an opportunity for Stevenson students to cheer on their fellow Mustangs as the winter athletes take the court. There will be giveaways and performances from the SU cheer and dance teams.
The annual Haunted Hallways event, will be held from 8-10 p.m. in the Rockland Center. Multiple clubs and organizations participate in the event, and it is a way to get into the spirit of Halloween. Entry is free for students with a current student ID. Faculty, staff and guests are asked to donate any monetary amount or a canned/nonperishable food item as a form of entry.
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 21
Join President Hirshman for coffee and conversation from 9-10 a.m. in the SoLVE Center in the Manning Academic Center on Owings Mills North. Seats are limited, students and family can reserve tickets here.
The football tailgate at the Owings Mills North campus starts from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. New to this year, parking is free and those who have parking passes reserved will be refunded in full. Parking is limited and will be available on a first come, first serve basis beginning at 9:30 a.m. Tailgating is strictly at Owings Mills North and prohibited elsewhere.
The football team will play Albright College at 1 p.m., weather permitting, in Mustang Stadium. The game is open to both students and guests. Tickets sold out in a record amount of time this year. Featured during halftime will be a performance by the SU Marching Band, Hall of Fame inductions and the introduction of Mr. and Ms. SU.
A student watch party will begin at 1 p.m. in the Ratcliffe Community Center. Students who missed out on getting tickets will be able to watch the game in Ratcliffe.
Swimming will compete against Frostburg University, Goucher College and Hood College starting at 2 p.m. at McDonogh School. Admission is free and open the public.
The crab feast, from 4-6:30 p.m., will feature all you can eat Maryland crabs, beverages and more. This is a ticket event, with the price being $50 for adults and $25 for children under 12 years-old. Ticket information can be found here.

The Dick Watts Athletics Hall of Fame banquet will be held from 6-9 p.m. in the Rockland Banquet room. Stevenson will recognize alumni athletes and contributors who had made an impact on Stevenson University. This includes women’s basketball and softball standout Alicia Barnard ’06, women’s volleyball player Jessica Bensley ’06, women’s tennis player Holly (Bentz) Zajac ’98, men’s tennis player Brad Friedel ’00, men’s golf student-athlete David Livermore ’00 and men’s lacrosse standout Eric Schmith ’99. Former softball coach Ken Ballance will be inducted as a Contributor. In addition, the Hall of Fame will also recognize the 2006-07 men’s golf team as a Team of Tradition. The annual Homecoming dance will be a Benefit Ball for the hurricane victims. Students and guests are invited to dance the night away while promoting a good cause. All proceeds will benefit SBP. Dress code is black tie suggested. Student tickets are $10 and guests are $15.
