The Stevenson women’s basketball team is looking forward to another successful season a year after going to the ECAC semifinals last year.

“We are young but do have a few key leaders returning with some good experience.  Everyone has been working really hard,” said head coach Jackie Boswell.

The team returns two seniors, Imani Sanders and Kristine Tennyson. Boswell said, “These two will lead the team both on and off the court. They are two of the hardest-working players, and they also do well in school and are good role models for our team.”

The team captains for the 2017-2018 season will be Sanders and Tennyson, along with junior Chance Herndon.

Boswell is entering her seventh season at Stevenson University for 2017-2018. She played basketball for four seasons at Virginia Wesleyan College, also a Division III school, and has led the Mustangs to four consecutive postseason appearances. These include back-to-back ECAC championships. Last season, the Mustangs reached the ECAC semifinals. Under Boswell, Stevenson won the Middle Atlantic-Commonwealth Conference championship during the 2014-15 season, and set the school record for the best start in program history that year. Boswell is excited and antsy to begin the 2017-18 season.

The team will start their 2017-18 season on Nov. 17 against Rochester Institute of Technology at the Swarthmore (Penn.) Tip-Off Tournament. The Tigers were 19-9 overall in 2016-17, and went 10-6 in the Liberty League conference. The following day, Stevenson will face Houghton College (NY). The Highlanders were 11-14 overall in the 2016-17 season, and went 5-11 in their conference, the Empire 8.

The Mustangs will host their first home game on Tuesday, Nov. 21 against Salisbury University. Four days later, on Nov. 25, the Mustangs will host the Ducks of Stevens Institute of Technology (NJ) for a 2 p.m. tip off.

With tip off coming in just a week, the team is getting physically and mentally prepared to start their journey for the upcoming season.

“Leading up to our games, we prepare by watching film, discussing the scouting report and implementing a scout team to go against us so that we are fully prepared,” said Boswell.

Middle Atlantic Commonwealth Conference games will begin on Nov. 29 when the Mustangs travel to Albright College (Penn.) for an 8 p.m. game.
