Stevenson University unveiled a new sculpture garden dedicated to the Guarnieri family on Feb. 18. It is located in the Knott Hall Courtyard, Greenspring campus between Knott Hall and the Carriage House.

Stevenson W. Close, Jr., the vice president for university advancement, welcomed everyone for the opening of the sculpture garden. Dr. Kevin J. Manning, president of Stevenson, recognized the generosity of Baltimore residents Michael and Susan Guarnieri who were the honored guest for the evening. The Guarnieri family donated 11 sculptures from their extensive collection to honor their late friend Thorsten Becker.

Three artists were involved in the creation of the sculptures donated by Guarnieri family. Each of which specializes in their own styles and techniques, which are displayed in the garden. Jill Lion specializes in stone carving; Dale Rogers is a welder who works with stainless steel on large-scale sculptures; and Mark Schwenk works in metal sculpting and blacksmithing. The sculptures displayed will help foster a culture and develop a deeper understanding of the arts.

A reception for the event was held in the Art Wing after the unveiling of Greenspring’s new addition.
