As the semester is coming to an end, winter festivities begin! It is officially time to get cozy under some blankets, have some hot cocoa, and tune into ABC Freeform for its 25 Days of Christmas and the Hallmark Channel for its new holiday movie line-up.
Although nothing beats staying warm inside during a winter day, there is so much to do around Maryland to get into the holiday spirit.
CHRISTMAS ON THE POTOMAC
An amazing Charlie Brown Christmas-themed display is brought to the public by Christmas on the Potomac featuring ICE! This display takes place in the National Harbor from Nov. 16 to Jan. 1. The display features more than 2 million holiday lights, acres of decorations, and holiday activities to get people into the holiday spirit. Make sure to reserve tickets online before heading to this display.
HOLIDAY IN THE PARK
Six Flags has a Holiday in the Park display from Nov. 23 to Jan. 1 featuring Santa’s house, holiday fire pits, Christmas tree displays and much more. Although there are many Christmas activities, guests are still able to go on rides in the park during this time. However, make sure to get tickets before heading out.
VICTORIAN CHRISTMAS AND WINTERFEST
Berlin, “the coolest small town in America,” features a Victorian Christmas on its Main Street from Nov 23 to Jan 1, with a Christmas Parade on Dec 6 at 7 p.m., and a New Years celebration on Jan 31. Just 20 minutes outside of Ocean City, Md., visiting Berlin could be combined with a trip to the shore for the Winterfest of Lights through Dec. 31. The one-mile journey includes 58 acres of lights and features a 50-foot Christmas tree.
SOLOMON’S ISLAND
Solomon’s Island has 2 main days of Christmas events taking place. On Dec 7 from 4-9 p.m. there will be a Christmas Market taking place. At 6:30 p.m. Santa will be visiting and the Christmas tree and gazebo lights will be turned on.
On Dec. 8 from 4-9 p.m. there will be another market taking place along with a jazz show taking place at 6 p.m. from Patuxent High School. A lighted boat parade will take place at 6:30 p.m.
PANDORA ICE RINK
The Pandora Ice Rink in Baltimore has many events throughout December. One of them is college night, Dec. 22, from 6-8 p.m., when college students can bring their college ID and get free skate rentals. The ice rink is located in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor at the top of the Amphitheater between the two pavilions. Admission is generally $10.
These Christmas events are sure to get students into the holiday spirit after a long semester and finals. If students are in surrounding states, or these events are just too far away, there are many things to do at home to get into the holiday spirit!
