Mustang Activities and Programming (MAP) is ready for the spring semester with returning events that students have come to love as well as some new and fresh campus activities.
“We are going to be hosting many of our traditional events that we usually host, but also new, fresh ideas as well, so there will not be a boring moment for students on campus,” said Krystal Alexis, president of MAP. This semester, Jenna Womack, associate director of Student Activities and advisor of MAP, said they aim to hold an event each week.
MAP is a branch of Student Activities that “provides every Stevenson University student with an exciting, enriching, and unforgettable college experience,” according to MAP’s website. MAP provides “fun, valuable, and impactful experiences for students,” said Womack.
“I am very excited about our new ‘Be Your Own Bae‘ event for Valentines, because we wanted to focus on self-care,” said Alexis. She added that MAP is encouraging students to not be alone on Valentines Day, especially if they do not have a date.
In February, events will include “Be Your Own Bae” on Feb. 13 and a visit from Noah Hoehn on Feb. 18. Hoehn is a musical performer who plays a unique set on the xylophone. Headphone Disco is slated for Feb. 21, with three different visiting DJs. Students can also purchase tickets for a discounted price with MAP to see the upcoming musical “Wicked” at the Hippodrome in Baltimore for late February and early March.
“Look for the SU After Dark logo on the event flyers to know when we will be offering scratch-offs,” said Womack. “If you get a winning scratch off ticket, you will receive a MAP t-shirt.” This should encourage all students to attend SU After Dark events for a chance to win some prizes.
Later in the semester, students can join MAP on a trip to Philadelphia for a discounted price. “Students have been asking for a trip to Philadelphia for years,” said Womack, “and I am excited to do that because I think it is important to give students what they are asking for and to show them that we are listening to their suggestions.”
MAP includes leadership of nine students. “We have such a diverse leadership team, which reflects on the Stevenson campus for the diverse student population,” said Alexis. “We have student leaders from psychology, business communication, graphic design, and science, so students from diverse backgrounds are giving their opinions of what they want to see happen on campus.”
MAP holds meetings on Fridays at 3 p.m. for those looking to volunteer, be more involved with the events, or share their ideas. “When you volunteer, you will get a MAP staff t-shirt as well as being the first to events and possibly meeting musical performers,” added Alexis.
