The fifth Club Forum of the school year on March 6, 2016, brought together a wide variety of student groups and focused on stress management.
Kayla Delpo, director of student groups for the Student Government Association (SGA), explained that students vote on what they are interested in hearing about. During Leaderstang, the SGA surveyed the attendees and reviewed the comments afterwards.
Delpo reached out to the Responsible Education Awareness Leaders (REAL) Peer Educators for information about the topic of stress and coping.
Colleen DeRoo, a REAL Peer Educator, helped present breathing techniques to the crowd during the Club Forum. “These exercises are easy to do in group settings, like in class or at work,” said DeRoo.
In the rest of her presentation, Delpo offered different activities that helped students identify stressors in their life. “We try to make the Club Forums interactive for students,” she said.
Students in clubs and organizations had the chance to talk with others about how they manage their stress. These activities identified stressors inside or outside of the club or organization.
Each club usually has two representatives who attend each Club Forum. Delpo noted that attendees are expected to take the information back to their club and apply the information they learn.
The next event will be held on April 6, 2016, at 6:30 p.m. and will feature mocktails, closing out the series of events for the year.
After the Club Forum, students may attend Club Leadership Management Sessions. Delpo said that after this year, the director of student groups would no longer be an SGA position. In the future, the position will be a graduate position.
Daniel Schwartz, assistant director of Student Activities, asked students for feedback on the Club Forum. This feedback will allow SGA to make this series of events more useful and relevant for students.
