Stevenson University received two colossal donations for a combined total of $1.5 million. “These gifts will fund multiple projects. Some will go to the annual fund. The anonymous donor’s gift will support the new Zaffere Library, Biomedical Engineering, and the Presidential Scholarship Fund.” Vice President of University Advancement, Christopher Vaughan said. Stevenson aims to create educational advancements on campus, giving students the equipment and opportunities they need in order to succeed. Vaughn said, “Both donors are familiar with the many wonderful developments at Stevenson and wanted to support our efforts to provide career-oriented education and experiences in a close knit and supportive environment.” He also added, “David and Suzi Cordish ($500,000) are neighbors of the University and have been long time friends and supporters. The donor of the $1,000,000 gift wishes to remain anonymous but has a long association with the university.”
The lobby of the new building will be named in honor of the Cordish family. David Cordish was born and raised in Baltimore and is the Chairman of The Cordish Company, now in its fourth generation of family ownership. The Cordish Company focuses on commercial real estate, hotels, casino resorts, residential, restaurants, entertainment districts, and sports developments.
“Donors’ gifts are meaningful whenever they arrive because they demonstrate a confidence in the work of the University,” Vaughn said. “The connections built over the years are appreciated and munificent donations like these are the reason for Stevenson’s success. People have faith in the students and faculty here, and with that new library it will open up massive opportunities for future students.”
