With 40+ games total this season, the Mustangs have to keep up both their fitness and their mental toughness. The team’s current record as of April 5 is 14-13. They are ready to finish the season strong, according to senior outfielder Kevin Kopas.
The team has been on a hot streak, winning three of their last four games including a 12-4 rout of Gettysburg College. Most recently, they split a two-game series against Lebanon Valley. In the first game against Lebanon Valley, the Mustangs lost by two despite leading most of the game. Junior Jake Hall hit his fourth home run of the season, while adding another hit later on. Kopas had two hits and a double with two runs batted in. However, the second game of the series was all Mustangs. Six players hit doubles and five also had runs batted in. Kopas said, “The team has really good chemistry together which has led to our recent success and to a promising season so far.”
Senior Matt Hughes added that this is his last season as a Mustang, and he has all the faith that this year’s team will finish the season out strong. The team’s offense has been working hard to put runs on the scoreboard with a team batting average just under 300, 13 home runs, and 155 runs batted in, according to gomustangsport.com. The Mustangs hope they will continue to improve their statistics throughout the rest of this season and into the MAC Commonwealth baseball tournament.
The team’s next series will be against Widener April 8-9. The first game of the series will be held at home, and then Stevenson takes to the road for a doubleheader at Widener’s home stadium. The Widener Pride, with a record of 12-9, will be the last conference team the Mustangs face until their final series of the season against the Albright Lions.
