This year Stevenson’s traditional Spring Fling will be held on Wednesday, April 20, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  on the grassy area between the Art Wing building and the Manuszak Center on the Greenspring campus.

The Freshman Council traditionally sponsors Spring Fling, offering activities and free food, a smaller version of the carnival Stevenson often has in the fall. There will be music and opportunities to meet new people and clubs.

Jennifer Milam, assistant director of student activities, explained that Spring Fling is a time for the entire school to celebrate the fact that it’s spring and that the semester is almost finished.

Every year the Freshman Council develops an idea or theme for the event. Last year’s theme was the 1990s, and this year’s theme is a rodeo. Jonathan Allebach, a member of the Freshman Council, described Spring Fling as very casual, noting that students can stop by in between classes to grab a bite to eat and participate in the activities.

The food provided will be Sloppy Joes with fries and a massive apple cobbler for dessert, provided by Sodexo food services. A mechanical bull will headline the activities, and other stations will include “Stuff-a-Plush,” where students can build their own stuffed horse. There will be a photo booth and giveaways as well.

According to the Stevenson website, Spring Fling offers a chance for all members of the community to come together: “Stevenson supports faculty and students building strong relationships outside the classroom to enhance the learning environment.” Spring Fling activities and food are free and provide opportunities for students to have a good time. If there is inclement weather, the event will be moved to the Greenspring gym.
