Stevenson’s Student Athletic Advisory Committee is participating in Making Strides’ Walk for a Cure. Students will walk on Oct. 13 around Walkins Park in Mt. Airy to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
Students will complete a 3.1-mile walk to show support for those battling breast cancer. For the second year in a row, SAAC will participate in backing this cause. Registration starts at 9 a.m. on Sunday, while the walk begins at 10 a.m. Anyone interested in walking can sign up online at the Making Strides website.
However, there are more activities than just walking.
“There’s vendors, there’s tents everywhere, and there’s people handing out free stuff,” SAAC president and fourth-year Paige Wilson said. “It’s a huge event because it’s the American Cancer Society and the Making Strides people. So, it’s like everybody’s there, and it’s a really big thing.”
SAAC will walk in Mt. Airy, a town in Carroll County and one of the two event locations in Maryland. Making Strides has hosted hundreds of walks across the country where thousands of people participated. Every year, these walks raise millions of dollars for the American Cancer Society. However, donations are always being taken to support cancer research.
