The sound of beads clicking against the canvas fills the room as Alyssa Gravel, second-year graphic design major, sits at her desk, fully immersed in her diamond painting. With spring break on the horizon, Gravel’s plans don’t include exotic vacations or wild adventures – instead, she’s looking forward to hours of focused creativity.
“I just finished the biggest [diamond painting] I’ve ever gotten and now I’m starting this square drilled one,” Gravel said. “I could do it for hours, sit at my desk and watch Netflix and do my diamond paintings.”

Spring break is a time for university students and employees to take a break from their regular routines, recharge, and enjoy a well-deserved rest. Some students will be celebrating birthdays as well as St. Patrick’s Day during the week-long break from university.
“Spring break is when I celebrate my birthday on March 15th,” said Natasha Dosso, a nursing major. “I will also go out for St. Patrick’s Day in D.C., and I will be attending a Rage Room as a way to release pent up emotions.”
Spring break is also a great time to get caught up on schoolwork and be ahead of the game. Third-year accounting major, Jonathan Argueta plans on staying home and focusing on his studies.
“My plans are to catch up on all of my studying and get started on some school projects,” Argueta said. “I’m also going to be hanging out with my girlfriend a lot and relaxing with my time off from school.”
Some students will also be spending time with their significant others over spring break week like Stephenae’ Lawrence, fourth-year psychology major.
“I’m planning to go to Atlanta with my boyfriend,” Lawrence said. “I want to go to the Coca-Cola Lounge so I can get a Coca-Cola bottle with my name on it and go to the aquarium.”

Spring break is expected to be a fun time for Stevenson’s sports teams as well. Maria Morsa, a first-year elementary education major, will be heading to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with Stevenson’s softball team.
“We’ll have our games, time with our families, and team dinners,” Morsa said. “I’m a first-year, so I’m most excited to be with my team and enjoy this experience with them.”
Fourth-year nursing major, Regan Tolbert will be traveling to Panama City, Florida with Stevenson’s lacrosse team to play a few games.
“While we are there, we are looking to go to the beach in our free time and just spend time together as a team,” Tolbert said.
While spring break is a time full of rest and traveling, some of the Stevenson University staff will be staying behind to hold down the fort. Ericka McDonald, systems librarian at the Zaffere Library, will spend her free time over spring break catching up on work.
“Librarians work over spring break,” McDonald said. “So, we complete projects that we can’t do when students are here like clean up, or I do database maintenance.”
