NFL fans in Philadelphia are probably still turning over cars and setting things on fire after the Eagles’ dominant Super Bowl victory a couple of months ago, but the rest of the league has turned its attention to the NFL Draft, set for April 24-26 in Cheeseville, aka, Green Bay, Wisconsin.
You can read NFL analyst Jimmy Rudolph’s mock draft here.
For this story, intrepid reporters Mamadou Sall and Makai Credell sought out their friends on the Stevenson Mustang football team for their thoughts on this year’s draft.
Here’s a rundown of their choice for the top pick overall, and their thoughts on their own favorite team’s first-round choice.

Jeremy Jones, WR, Sophomore, New York Giants
“Cam Ward should be the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft because the Titans have the first pick and they need a quarterback. My favorite team is the New York Giants and I think we should take Travis Hunter because he can fill in two spots on the roster playing both sides of the ball. We also have a quarterback for three years so we don’t need a QB just yet”
Hunter Secor, WR, Sophomore, Chicago Bears
“I think it should be Cam Ward because he’s a big physical athlete who can throw the ball and he is accurate with good decision making. My favorite team is the Chicago Bears, and I think we should get Ashton Jeanty. With our head coach Ben Johnson I think having a dynamic duo can help our team win games.”
Cole Davis, LB, Sophomore, New York Giants
“I think Cam Ward will be the number one pick because he is the best quarterback in the draft. Not the best quarterback draft but the titans have the first pick and they need a quarterback. My favorite team is the New York Giants and i think we should get Travis Hunter, hopefully he doesn’t get swept up by Cleveland. Right now with our quarterback situation we have two veterans so I think we wait until next season to draft a better quarterback.”

Gabriel Shanks, LB, Junior, Pittsburgh Steelers
“I think it should be Travis Hunter because he can play both sides of the ball so it gives your team an advantage. My favorite team is the Pittsburgh Steelers and we should pick Jackson Dart because we need a quarterback and we just traded both of our recent quarterbacks.”
Makhi Walker, WR, Junior, Baltimore Ravens
“I think the number one pick should be Abdul Carter from Penn State because I think a lot of teams right now need pass rushers and ends. I also think he is the number one player and edge rusher in the daft right now. My favorite team is the Ravens and I think we should pick a running back like Omarion Hampton because Derrick Henry is at the end of his career.
Nic’kyi Green, DB, Junior, Washington Commanders
“I think Travis Hunter should be the number one pick because he is versatile and you can put him anywhere on the field. My team is the Washington Commanders and I think we should draft Omarion Hampton because we need a running back. I think us getting a solid running back will get us over that hump.”
Ed Emmons, RB, Freshman, Denver Broncos
“Cam Ward should be the number one pick in the NFL Draft because the Titans need a quarterback and he’s the most dynamic one in the class. As a Broncos fan, I’d love for us to get Ashton Jeanty. He’s explosive, versatile, and exactly the type of back we need. We’ve already got our quarterback situation being figured out, so landing a guy like Jeanty would give our offense a serious boost. But no question, Cam Ward deserves that top spot.”

Colin Davis, OL, Senior, Philadelphia Eagles
“Abdul Carter should be the number one pick in the NFL Draft. He’s a game-changer on defense with speed, power, and that Philly grit. As an Eagles fan, though, I’m hoping we land Malaki Starks. Our secondary needs that kind of athleticism and instinct, and Starks would be a perfect fit. Carter’s definitely earned that top spot, but Starks in midnight green is perfect!”
