Donald Trump had a strong performance in his debate with Hillary Clinton in the first Presidential Debate of 2016 . . . for the first 20 minutes. After that time, he got caught up in a tangle of issues about global warming, birtherism, stop-and-frisk, fat-shaming a Miss Universe pageant winner, and why he refuses to make public his income tax returns. Clinton continually baited Trump, questioning his finances and his temperament, and Trump rose to the bait. One commentator says Clinton played Trump like a trout on a fishing line.
President Obama faces his first veto-override this week as the Senate votes to allow American citizens to sue Saudi Arabia for its possible involvement in the 9/11/01 attacks on the United States. In June of this year, the people of the United Kingdom voted to decide whether or not they would leave the European Union, a vote commonly referred to as Brexit. The European Union is a partnership that was created following World War II as a way to prevent any further wars. It was believed that countries who traded and worked together would not go to war with each other. The EU, European Union, also assists countries with financial problems. Only two of the four countries that comprise the UK voted to leave the EU, England and Wales, while Scotland and Ireland voted to remain a part of the EU. Following the vote, the UK economy suffered and the value of the pound reached an all-time low.
