Stevenson’s 47 House, an integrated marketing communication club associated with School of Design, welcomed back three communication alumni to present at their Virtual Coffee Chats with Pros event. The coffee chat took place last Wednesday evening, with over 28 attendees interested in hearing what industry professionals had to say about their ever-changing line of work in the field of communication.

Scott Gray, a member of 47 House, mediated the event and welcomed all the attendees and the three returning alumni. The pros featured in the event were Christina Kemp, a 2014 graduate, who is now working at MSC Cruises as a Business Development Manager; Jarret Bragg, a 2017 graduate, working at Sinclair Broadcast Group/Compulse Integrated Marketing as a Digital Marketing Specialist; and Bryan Corvera-Flores, a 2017 graduate, who is now working in sports marketing at the University of Maryland College Park.

During the event, the pros shared their backgrounds and what set them up for success in their careers. They discussed what their jobs consisted of as well as internship or job opportunities within their companies. Additionally, the trio shared experiences at Stevenson, including courses, clubs, activities, and internships that helped propel them into their current careers. With all the pros having such different backgrounds, students gained experience about how different industries operate and what has helped them succeed in post-graduate life.

During the course of the last year, 47 House had to pivot events for online delivery. Planners of the annual Business Mixer, whereby students participate in an on-campus, face-to-face networking event with industry professional, 47 House took charge and moved the events online and in smaller formats. The Coffee Chats provided a chance for current students to network with former students, build rapport, and make connections as current students become prepared for internships and jobs after graduation.

In the fall semester, 47 House plans to host the Business Mixer in person.
