Stevenson University has welcomed a new associate dean of communication programs. 

Dr. Nadene Vevea started working at Stevenson in August of 2016 after four years as an assistant professor of communication studies at Central Washington University. Her job is to assist in the development of the Master’s degree in communication studies, and to oversee the traditional and adult undergraduate programs in business communication.

Vevea enjoys the uniqueness of Stevenson University.  

“As a university, I love the career focus that we have. Students meet with Career Services and success coaches, and they help you figure out what you’re good at and how to turn what you’re good at into something that you can do as a career,”  said Vevea.

Vevea said that she is impressed with how “engaged and committed” Stevenson students are. 

“I’m also impressed with how warm and friendly all of the faculty and staff have been to me,” she added.

Although Vevea said she has a “big to-do list,” she added that she is still eager and excited to be working at Stevenson, surrounded by many fantastic people, including Dr. Deric Greene, an associate professor of business communication.

Greene said, “I thoroughly enjoy working with her. She brings new energy to our department, and I’m most excited about her vision to explore new avenues for us, as well as our students.”

Vevea is eager to find out what she will be able to contribute to the business communication department, especially with a new communication minor that has just been approved for Stevenson University students starting in the spring of 2017.

The new associate dean noted that the faculty in the department are also working on developing a second degree in the field of communication.

Vevea is motivated to help students find what makes them happy in order to understand what they want to do for their futures, just as a professor in her undergraduate degree program did for her. 

“What’s most important to me is doing the best work I can do in order to support my students, so they can be the best people that they can be,” she said.

Vevea loves the field of communication, as she believes it is vital in helping Stevenson University students find the best careers in order to secure bright and successful futures.
