At Stevenson, the libraries offer much more than just a place to pull an all-night study session.  With libraries on both the Owings Mills and Greenspring campuses, and the all-new Learning Commons on the Owings Mills North campus, there are places around every corner with possibilities for students to learn and grow.

Sue Bonsteel, the director of library services, says that “libraries serve as an extension of what is learned in the classroom.” They provide a quiet space for students to work and think clearly, unmatched by any dorm room or student lounge.

Not only do libraries help students attain better grades through focusing on schoolwork, but the resources and tools at students’ disposals will cultivate their overall education experiences.

THE LIBRARY FACILITIES

The Stevenson University library website has over 50 electronic databases with high-quality, credible content available to students for use on papers, projects and other studies. The website also offers students options to search for print and online collections, use their research and citation tools, find tutorials and course guides, renew books and reserve a study room.

On each campus, the libraries contain computer labs with both Macs and PCs, photocopy and scanning machines, printers and charging stations for students’ phones. Additionally, the Learning Commons in the Manning Academic Center has numerous study rooms and nooks where students can find a comfortable space.

Librarians support and assist students with anything they may need. Even when students ask about a matter unrelated to the library, such as meal plan options, the librarians will always find an answer. At Stevenson, the library has a service called “AskUs!” on the website, where students can email, call or even text the librarians with any questions they have. Students can also make research appointments with librarians through the library website.

Librarians can help faculty and students who need to order books or other materials from other libraries through ILLiad, the interlibrary loan resource.

Bonsteel describes the library as “the academic hub of the university where everybody from different disciplines come together in one place and interact with each other and help each other.”
