The end of the semester is an important and exciting time for Stevenson University students and faculty. Even though resident students are eager to leave for the summer, there are still important things to accomplish before departure.

Resident directors and assistants have vital jobs when it comes time for students to move out of their residence halls. Towards the end of the semester, emails are sent out instructing students about what must be done before leaving.

Resident assistant John Kimenhour said that all the RAs have a checklist they use when students are packing up for the summer, including checking the room for anything that should not be there.

They are also required to check the room is move-in ready and clean for the next resident. All residents must meet with a resident assistant for a final room check for condition and possible damages.

Kimenhour noted that residents must take all their belongings home and unplug everything except the major appliances like the refrigerator and microwave. In addition to clearing out all the furniture, if you have non-perishable food items that have not been opened, you can donate them to the on-campus food pantry.

“Leave Steve Green” is a movement on campus being promoted by the Stevenson Food Pantry and Stevenson University Center for Environmental Stewardship, encouraging students to think wisely when cleaning out their rooms and throwing items away.

“Even Huckfeldt, resident director, also reminds students to remove everything from the room except items that were provided by the school. Trash and recyclables must be carried out. Students must also clean their rooms and  furniture. If the room is not cleaned correctly or there is noticeable damage to the walls, the room itself, or the furniture, an assessment can be charged to the student’s account.
