The Stevenson International and Off-Campus Study program is venturing into new territory in 2018, extending students the opportunity of a lifetime to intern and study abroad in Dublin, Ireland.
“SU in Ireland” is an initiative that takes place at two institutions, allowing students to earn either academic or internship credits, or both simultaneously, all while exploring the heart of Ireland.
Dr. Rebecca Pisano, associate dean for International and Off-Campus Study, says the program is a direct partnership between the university and foreign institutions whose programs align with Stevenson’s curriculum. The two partnerships involve a direct enroll opportunity at Dublin City University (DCU) and an internship program through CAPA, The Global Education Network, at Griffith College Dublin.
The CAPA internship program at Griffith College Dublin involves an internship placement in a variety of fields including art, business, communications, criminal justice, fashion, and film. Along with the internship, a corresponding course can be taken for three or six credits.
Students in the CAPA internship program will live in shared apartments or homestays in central Dublin. Each student will receive Dublin city bus passes and have access to international health insurance. Also included are two day-long excursions to the Cliffs of Moher and to Belfast, an orientation with a Dublin City tour, and local social events.
The “SU in Ireland” option at Dublin City University (DCU) allows students to take between 12-18 academic credits with their fellow classmates and students from around the world. Students can also participate in a variety of clubs and sports to further engage in Irish culture and gain cross-cultural skills that will last a lifetime.
Students in the semester or year-long program will live in shared student housing in the residence halls of the DCU campus. Each student will have access to international health insurance as well as an array of services including health and counseling, disability and learning support, and state-of-the-art facilities.
“SU in Ireland” will take place starting in the spring of 2018. Students in the CAPA internship program have the option to spend their fall, spring, or summer 2018 semester in Dublin. Students in the DCU program can choose to spend the entire academic year abroad, or enroll in the university for just the fall or spring 2018 semester.
Students will be able to utilize 100 percent of their institutional aid if they study abroad during the fall and/or spring semester. Pisano said that “the goal of ‘SU in’ partnerships is to make International and Off-Campus Study experiences affordable and attainable for all Stevenson students.”
Both programs are open to Stevenson sophomores, juniors, and seniors. The CAPA internship requires a minimum GPA of 2.80, while the DCU program requires a minimum GPA of 3.0.
The application deadline for spring 2018 is October 15, 2017; the deadline for summer 2018 is February 15, 2018; and the deadline for fall 2018 is March 15, 2018. Students can fill out and submit the semester applications here, and the summer application can be found here.
