The Stevenson University Q Group will hold a queer talent show on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017, with a focus on showcasing the talents of Q Group members, students on campus and individuals from the Greater Baltimore region.

Last year, many of the performers were members of the Q Group.  There was also a heavy emphasis on improvisation at the show. The Q Group is working towards making some changes based on feedback and insights gained from the previous show.

This year, the Q Group is looking to expand its horizons and incorporate a more broad base for performances at the show. The vice president of the group, Anthony Plaag, said that he has no idea who will be performing this year, although he indicated that the Q Group is “open to expanding to other queer artists and performers from the surrounding Baltimore area.” The idea of incorporating local talent outside of the Stevenson University community would make the overall show more fluid, said Plaag.

This event will be advertised on social media, so the group suggests keeping up to date with the Q Group’s Facebook page for more information as the event draws closer. Performances will take place in the Rockland banquet hall on the Owings Mills campus beginning at 8 p.m. Admission is free.

Kayla Gibson, public relations chair for the Q Group, said that she really enjoyed the event last year, adding that is it a “good way to showcase members of the queer community who are not in Q group.”

Plaag indicated that there is not a theme for this year’s show, though it is likely that there will be some sort of holiday theme to the event.

The Q Group represents queer students and allies on the Stevenson campus, as they provide a space for individuals to be expressive without judgment. Plaag hopes the event draws more attention to the Q Group and that more students feel inclined to share their stories and feel comfortable around their peers.

For those interested in performing, there is still time to audition by attending a Q Group meeting and getting to know the members of the club.
