In recent years, the number of sport-related jobs and opportunities in the field has increased significantly. Stevenson University’s Office of Career Services continues to keep up with this trend by hosting their annual SCORE! Sports Industry Careers and Employer Networking Session, on Wed., Feb. 24, 2016.
Students and Stevenson alumni who are interested in learning more about networking and careers in the sports industry are invited to attend.
Representatives from Excel Sport Management, Lax Sports Network, Maroon PR, STX and The Y in Central Maryland, will join a variety of others in educating students about the industry as well as open internship, part-time and full-time opportunities within these firms.
This year, there is a primary focus on networking. Jacqui Goetz, coordinator of events and marketing in the Office of Career Services, defines networking as “making connections and maintaining relationships with people who support you throughout each phase of your career.”
The event will open with a panel discussion, followed by a networking workshop for students. Speed networking will be utilized during the event, as attendees will have five minutes with 12 different employers to share information and learn more about the representative and company they are speaking with.
“Your network of contacts may help you to choose the right career, find rewarding opportunities, develop your skills and achieve your goals… This is a valuable opportunity to build relationships and gain contacts outside of the university,” Goetz mentions. For more information on networking, visit the Office of Career Service’s “Seven Secrets to Successful Networking” on their website.
The SCORE! event will be held Feb. 24 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Rockland Banquet room on the Owings Mills campus. Register for the event on Handshake.
