Stevenson University’s School of Design has a new department chair for its Communications Programs, Dr. Lee Krähenbühl, who took over the position in October of 2020. The role is no small duty, either.
Krähenbühl now oversees SU’s accelerated online undergraduate degrees and traditional undergraduate degrees in Communication Studies and Business Communication, as well as the graduate program in Communication Studies, which ranked among the best online master’s in communications programs for 2018-2019 according to Affordablecolleges.com.
“Being awarded chair is very much like a homecoming,” Krähenbühl said of his position. Indeed, Krähenbühl, who also goes by a shortened version of his name—Dr. K—has called the Communication Department home since he came to SU in 2019, holding positions such as program coordinator and interim dean of SU Online, alongside his associate professor status.
Dr. K. described his new role as, “mostly just making sure the machine is still running and that it operates smoothly. There are a lot of logistics that go into keeping the program going,” he added. “For example, Communication Studies is a brand-new major, and we have four brand-new courses that will be offered in the fall.” On the process of developing such new courses, Dr. K. said, “There’s a lot of paperwork involved, a lot of planning, and a lot of people taking a look at the courses to make sure that they meet all of our academic standards.”
In addition to planning the course calendar and advising students, among countless other duties, Dr. K. said he also does as much as he can to generate more interest in the nascent SU program.“I do public speaking so that people can know about what we’re about with our two majors in Business Communication and Communication Studies.”
Dr. K doesn’t narrow his public appearances to speaking only. In fact, he will be performing on March 22 for the SU “Monday Virtual Recitals” programs, as he is also an avid singer-songwriter (not to mention theater director, historian, and actor).
