The annual Taste of Cultures event includes a mouth full of diversity, literally. The main event helps Stevenson University students experience the diversity of the community. Taste of Cultures will be held in the Rockland banquet hall on Saturday, April 16, 2016, at 6 p.m
The event takes months to plan. Planning starts in the fall by the International Student Association (ISA). Since a lot goes into the event, ISA breaks the event into sections: one group does decorations, another does food, and a different group plans the performances.
At the Taste of Culture event, a wide range of different ethnic foods will be available, such as Caribbean, Korean, and Chinese, just to name a few. Along with international food, the event has showcased different types of dances and fashion in the past.
Stevenson’s Sovereign Stangs Step Team and All Natural Glee Club will be in the performance line up. Taste of Cultures will also include entertainment from off-campus, including International Essence Step Team from Goucher College, UMBC Rasscals (the art of Garba and Raas dance), and more, including Stevenson University’s Urban Vibe dance team, which will perform three times throughout the event.
Zsa-Maine Brookshire, president of ISA, said that attendees should “become more aware of the different types of cultures that surround us every day,” adding, “after this event, I hope the attendees will take the time out of each day to embrace differences among peers, and take the time to learn new facts about cultures.”
Tickets for the event are available free at the Rock, but sales are limited and tickets sell quickly.
