Mustang Activities and Programming (MAP) is excited to bring the three-time award-winning improv show, “Sex Signals,” back to Stevenson University on Thursday, Sept. 29, at 8 p.m. in Rockland Banquet Hall.
Winner of the 2015 Speaker of The Year award from Campus Activities Magazine, “Sex Signals,” produced by Catharsis Productions, describes itself as “the real life funny sort-of-improv show about sex and stuff.”
“Dating and sex is funny,” said Hope Miller, assistant director of student activities. “It is funny. It’s really awkward and they [Sex Signals] take all that into account.” Funny and informative is what the students want. Sex Signals is a sexual assault awareness program with a comedic and interactive twist.
EXCITEMENT BUILDING ON CAMPUS
The program has been visiting the Stevenson University campus since 2007 and has remained a favorite among students.
“According to surveys…a large number of students have asked for more programs of this nature,” said Miller. “Culture on college campuses right now is one of awareness and one where students want to be educated in these areas so they don’t make mistakes.”
INCREASING AWARENESS
In addition to winning a Visionary Award from Rape Victim Associates, “Sex Signals” has been used in the corporate world in an effort to build a better understanding among individuals for a more supportive office culture. The program was also recently added as a part of the curriculum to basic training in the U.S. Army.
According to the Catharsis Productions website, “Sex Signals has been performed over 3,500 times at colleges and universities of all sizes and has been seen by over 1 million students worldwide.”
MAP member Keyara Blackmon, a junior majoring in criminal justice, is coordinating the event. “Sexual awareness is a must,’’ she said.
Some may be rewarded with more than knowledge and a good laugh for attendance. There will be raffle for a “Netflix and chill,” gift basket. According to Blackmon, the prize contains a Netflix gift card, popcorn, an assortment of candy and “the more important stuff, the ‘chill’ stuff.”
A ticket is not required. Attendees should show their student I.D.s as they enter.
