The Commuter Student Association (CSA) helps commuters feel more involved in the campus community. The CSA is currently sponsoring an event called “Crunch Time with Commuters” which consists of three different events that allow students to interact with friends.
Since commuters make up 55 percent of the population at Stevenson, it is important that they feel connected to other students.
The CSA also holds monthly events such as breakfast with commuters, which was created to bring students together on campus. The events held involve different programs, departments, and clubs; including Study Abroad and Financial Aid.
Every August, a commuter’s social event is held to welcome new commuters and to make them aware of the association. Participants in the event receive small gifts, such as shirts and pens.
Joseph Acqui, president of the CSA, describes “Crunch Time with Commuters” as a series of three events to help students relax during finals. Acqui described the events as “Events to make commuters feel more welcomed and involved in the community.”
The first event was held this past Wednesday, Nov. 30 on Owings Mills North in the south main concourse area which included bagels and fruits.
The second event will be held Wednesday, Dec. 7 in Caves on the Owings Mills campus. This event will include pizza and a demonstration by R.E.A.L. member, Adam Vorce who is the vice president of finance for the CSA and a peer educator for R.E.A.L.
Vorce explained that the second event will include a variety of activities that students can do while mingling with their friends.“We will be making stress balls and holiday cards, and we will have a station for coloring and sand art. We will also be discussing the benefits of each activity,” Vorce added.
The third event will be held on Thursday, Dec. 8, in the School of Business lobby and will include coffee and donuts.
Acqui said that he thought “Crunch Time with Commuters” would be a good event to host because he thought it would help students to ease their minds during the chaos of finals.“We’re hoping for a good turn out. We’re going to have lots of good food and it’s going to be a good time,” he said.
Another upcoming event is the peer mentor Christmas party in the Ratcliffe Center on Dec. 2 from 2:30-4:30 p.m. There will be cookie baking, writing positive messages on candy canes to give to other students, and watching Christmas movies.
