Initiative encourages late- night events

SU After Dark is an initiative that was created in 2017 to offer students late-night events and activities. According to the director of student activities, Jenna Womack, “SU After Dark events are classified as events happening Thursday-Saturday that end after 9 p.m.”

SU After Dark events include several in March.

The most recent SU After Dark event, hosted by Mustang Activities and Programming (MAP) in the Rockland banquet room, was Headphone Disco. About 95 students attended this event, and had the option to choose between three different DJs to listen to. According to fashion major Kaela Sinkfield, “This event was really fun, and I really enjoyed the music that was played.”

Some of the upcoming SU After Dark events happening in March include the Phi Beta Sigma, Black Student Union (BSU), African Student Union (ASU) and Male Initiative of Leadership and Excellence (M.I.L.E) Kickback which will occur every other Thursday from 10 p.m.-midnight in the Garrison coffeehouse. The next Kickback Thursday will be held on March 5.

Another event happening in March is the Self-Care Spa hosted by MAP in the Claire Moore room from 8-10 p.m. on Friday, March 6. This event will include massage chairs, canvas painting, face masks, and an oxygen bar.

On Saturday, March 7, SU After Dark will present Knocker Ball at 8 p.m. in the Rockland banquet room. According to the planner of this event, Britney Campbell, “Students are able to play 4 vs 4 and play to 7 points.” This event doesn’t require any sign up, and refreshments will be provided.

The Lock-In at the Library will occur March 27 from 7:30-9:30 p.m. in the Owings Mills library.

Student activities is encouraging students to attend SU After Dark events by giving each person who attends a scratch-off ticket for a chance to win prizes.

Student Activities will help any club with an event if it meets the requirements to be considered an SU After Dark event. According to Womack, “We can help with whatever needs the club has, and we can also help with funding as well.”

For more information on SU After Dark, visit the SU portal, and flyers with information about upcoming events happening in the month of April will be posted.
