Stevenson’s track and field teams are proving to be a force to be reckoned with; in the team’s past two events, they have consistently set both school and personal records.

HOPKINS/LOYOLA INVITATIONAL
On April 16, the outdoor team traveled to Johns Hopkins University to compete in the Hopkins/Loyola Invitational. The following school and personal records were set:

Head coach Erick Camodeca attributes much of the team’s success to the unity and cohesiveness exhibited by student athletes and coaches: “We have very good assistant coaches who know what they’re doing with their different event groups. A lot goes into this – it’s more than just showing up to practice and running every day.”

In terms of individual success, Camodeca mentions no feat goes unnoticed. He said, “[Simpson] has worked really, really hard. And he’s seen this program grow from the time he got here… for him to run the way he did was just really special. That was the fastest of his career, both in high school and in college. That was a big day for him.”

MORGAN STATE LEGACY MEET
More recently, the Mustangs competed at the 13th annual Morgan State University Legacy track meet on April 22 and 23. The meet consisted of several more record-breaking races for the Mustangs, as well as the first decathlon in the team’s history.

Freshman Cooper Smelski and sophomore Steven Sneed took part in the first decathlon in Stevenson’s history. Sneed finished sixth and Smelski finished in 10th place in the two-day event. Other personal and schools records include:

The Mustangs will travel to Penn Relays and compete from April 28-30. For more information regarding Stevenson’s outdoor track and field teams, visit GoMustangSports.com.
