National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) members are expected to submit one monthly “Of the Month” (OTM) nomination in which they can nominate programs, individuals or groups to be recognized in the Stevenson community.

Courtney Parto, president of NRRH, said that each month there are various categories to which nominations can be submitted, including all types of groups and individuals across the Stevenson University campus. Some categories include students, staff members, resident assistants, organizations, first-year students, advisors and social programs.

These nominations are rewards of recognition for people in the Stevenson community, and can be submitted by anyone in the community. They focus on contributions within that particular month that make a positive impact on campus to earn the title “Of the Month.”

Some of last month’s winners include M.I.L.E. (Male Initiative Leadership and Excellence), which was nominated for their social program cookout; Sex in the Dark, for its educational program; Bryson Barksdale, as resident assistant of the month; and Dr. Virginia Iannone, as institutional faculty/staff member of the month.

According to the Central Atlantic Affiliate of NACURH (CAACURCH) OTM guide, nominations are usually 600 words or less focusing on the outstanding deed the person or program has done.

Participants can create an account online or submit an OTM nomination as a guest. While online, submitters will choose the category, find their school from the drop down menu, fill in the nominator and the nominee’s information, write the OTM, and hit ‘submit.’

OTMs are beneficial to the campus since recognition is important; the power of a simple “thank you” can go a long way and have a great impact on someone.

OTMs can also be submitted online for the region. According to the CAACURCH’s OTM Guide, the OTM Regional Taskforce will select the regional winners by reading each submission and selecting the outstanding ones. Once the regional winner is picked, names are uploaded into the database for everyone to view.

The upcoming OTM will be for December. Even Huckfeldt, a resident director, said students can contact him or the Resident Hall Society for more information.
