The Diversity Career Expo is a networking event at Stevenson University with the purpose of creating connections and helping students gain internships and potential job offers. This event will be held on March 7 from 1-3 p.m. in Rockland banquet room.
This year’s Career Expo will take a bit of a different turn than last year’s. The goal this year is to facilitate like-minded companies that support diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Ultimately, students can learn how to positively promote their skills and strengths. Sophomore Gordon Wallace, an attendee at last year’s Career Expo said, “Stevenson created an atmosphere for students to openly establish relationships with possible employers.”
The program will start with an alumni panel facilitated by students. The panel’s credentials include a multitude of internships and experiences in the workplace. The Office of Alumni Relations has secured participants to address student questions that will be written down by attendees prior to the start of the event and will be answered by alumni graduates.
Following the alumni panel will be employer introductions. This gives companies a chance to offer background information about their site and discuss future plans. Anne Scholle-Fiedler, vice president of the Office of Career Services, asked that “employers be ready to discuss how they support diversity, inclusion, and equity in the workplace.” The networking component will follow shortly after, allowing students to interact and gain potential work relationships. Scholl-Fiedler is optimistic about the outcome of the event.
