Ebony “Ebi” Short, former Villager features editor, died Tuesday after a catastrophic accident on Route 70 near Marriottsville.
The victim was walking along the highway following an argument with her boyfriend when she was struck by motorists traveling towards Route 29, according to WBAL-TV.
Ebi was a graduate of River Hill High School and a 2015 graduate of Stevenson University, majoring in English and minoring in art. A valuable member of the Villager staff while at Stevenson, Ebi brought her unique outlook and original views to the publication. Co-editor-in-chief Emily Rosenthal said of Ebi, “She was creative, free-spirited and passionate.”
The Villager staff offers condolences to friends and family of Ebi. She will be missed.
Student memories continue to pour in, on social media and to The Villager:
Very sad story about a beautiful young lady. I had the privilege of getting to know her at Stevenson and she will certainly be missed by everyone.
Such a sad week filled with tragedies, and now we are faced with another. Ebi Short and I loved to talk about writing and reading inside and outside the classes she took with me. She loved Stevenson, her friends, literature, and photography. She will be dearly missed.
The jump rope community has lost a beautiful person, Ebi Short. Ebi was a longstanding member of the Kangaroo Kids jump rope team out of Howard County, Maryland. Her grandparents, Bob and Ginny Bost have been long time volunteers and her sister Beth still competes in jump rope. Ebi always had a huge smile on her face and a big hug for everyone. She was passionate and would show that for her team and her friends when they did a great job during competition. But more than anything, she was a wonderful person that we will love and miss and she was taken from us too soon.
Ebi Short was a beautiful soul who lived her life with her head held high despite the struggles she faced growing up. I watched her mature as a photographer & artist, and she had a passion for performing on the stage. I had the good fortune to spend time with Ebi on two separate “study abroad” experiences, and I could see the growth she made during both of these experiences. I hope she has found the peace now that she sought throughout her life. She was a caring & thoughtful soul, and the world will be less bright without her. At only 22 years old, hers was a life that had just begun…tragic loss.
Absolutely in shock and devastated to find out of the passing of Ebi Short. Everyone who knew her loved her spirit and personality. I am so happy to have called her a friend for those tough times known as high school and to have experienced Costa Rica with her.
RIP my wonderful friend Ebi Short. You were one of the most fun-loving, energetic and driven persons I have ever known. Just can’t believe you’re gone. God bless and keep your family.
