The beginning of the new semester comes with the need to get re-acclimated to the routine of a scholar and learning how to be more efficient than in the previous term. With the stress creeping up so early, a Pinterest Jams Night might be what students need to maintain a healthy balance.

The on-campus organization Mustang Activities and Programming (MAP), will sponsor this crafts night on Saturday, Feb. 11, in the Rockland banquet room. The club’s director of programming, Mackenzie Wieder, will head this event. It is a combination of Patio Jams (live music) and a Pinterest Party (personalized crafts).

Students will be able to create their own dreamcatcher or phone stand/speaker out of yarn, beads, ribbons, toilet paper rolls, and other everyday household items. While attendees put their craft skills to use, there will be live music from Mikki Hommel.

This pop music artist is based in New York,  where she has been creating soulful tunes for more than eight years. She is also known for making covers and mashups of other artist’s songs.

The club members met Hommel, and made arrangements to bring her to campus, in November when members of the Student Activities team attended the NACA (National Association for Campus Activities) conference in Buffalo, New York,

In the past, craft nights have consistently been a hit with the students. Jenna D’Onza, the assistant director of student activities and advisor to MAP, said “students seem to want more DIY nights.” This will be the first of the semester; however, MAP hopes to offer more in the future.

MAP invites all students to come out for the event Saturday at 7 p.m. The event is free to all students.
