Campus provides resources for exams

To help ease the stress during midterm week, Stevenson University offers services from both the Wellness Center and Academic Link. The Wellness Center focuses on emotional pressures during that time, and the Academic Link helps students with educational anxiety.

The Wellness Center is located on the Owings Mills campus in the Caves building. The Center is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with the exception of the Center closing at 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Wellness Center’s focus during midterm week is on students’ mental health. Some common services for students include physical health consultations, counseling and the use of the Meditation Center. Students can use these services at their convenience by scheduling an appointment in advance.

Students can also visit the Menning Meditation Center, which is located on the Greenspring Campus. The center is designed for “quiet reflection and tranquility,” which can be an oasis for students to relieve stress from their hectic workload. The Wellness Center has gone one step further and created a program of guided meditation sessions every Thursday at noon. These sessions are led by REAL Peer Educators.

The Academic Link provides students with the resources to successfully navigate the stressful week of midterms. Each campus has an Academic Link, providing the same services for every student. The Link is located in Knott Hall on the Greenspring Campus, and is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Owings Mills Academic Link is located at Room 249 in Caves, and is also open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sunday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Each student is eligible for free individual tutoring or group studies in any course. The Academic Link encourages students to take advantage of this resource, especially if they are struggling with a class or a specific subject.

Each general course has multiple tutors that all follow a tutoring guide. This service allows students to quickly schedule an emergency tutoring session if needed. The Academic Link also offers tutoring for courses that are in a student’s major, where the tutors create their own unique teaching strategies.

The Academic Link also provides additional information from educational and professional sites. Topics include studying strategies, time management, writing and grammar, nursing, math, science and psychology. Students can find this on the Portal under the Academic Link area.

If you are feeling stressed during midterm week, please utilize the Wellness Center, Meditation Center and Academic Link to ensure that you successful. Contact Brenda Boggs at the Wellness Center for more information about these resources.
