New coaches take over womens ice hockey

Two members of the inaugural Stevenson women’s ice hockey team, Tori Emoff and Megan Alexander, have joined the women’s ice hockey coaching staff this year. Emoff was named the third head coach in program history, and Alexander was selected as the assistant coach.

Emoff is originally from California, and spent the last two seasons as the assistant coach at Trine University in Indiana. Alexander is from Florida, and returned to Stevenson after working as a lab scientist in Nevada. After graduating in 2016, the pair coached a year together at St. Timothy’s Catholic High School.

Both coaches are very excited to be back at Stevenson, and were both impactful leaders during their time as undergraduates. Each of them said they had a strong passion for hockey and love the culture of this program. Emoff said she felt a “special connection” to Stevenson women’s ice hockey, and she wants to continue to define the culture of this program through her coaching.

A three-year captain, Emoff appeared in 96 career games on defense which ranks her tied for sixth in program history. During her senior year, she led the Mustangs to a 23-3-1 record and the inaugural Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) championship.

She was also named an All-CHC First Team selection and to the CHC All-Tournament Team. In four seasons, Emoff finished with 31 points on nine goals and 22 assists while netting six power play goals and a plus-14 rating, according to gomustangsports.com

Alexander was also a strong player for the Mustangs, and she still ranks in the top-10 in seven career categories, including tied for second with seven game-winning goals. She ranks tied for sixth with 53 points, seventh with 22 goals, and tied for fifth with 31 assists. Alexander had the primary assist on the overtime game-winning goal that clinched the CHC championship and has the first game-winning goal in program history, according to gomustangsports.com.

At Trine University, Emoff was a dynamic leader in their inaugural season in 2017-18, and helped push the team to 10 wins in the program’s second season. She said coaching became a clear passion for her, and she could not wait to get back on the ice at Stevenson and help push this program toward the great things they are capable of.

The duo have been friends for years, and both were eager to share their experience with this team and continue to be a large part of this program. Emoff began her tenure in July and Alexander started in October. They are 10 games into their first season as coaches and are currently sitting at 4-3-2.
