It was another action-packed week for Stevenson University athletics, highlighted by gritty performances, statement wins, and Senior Day celebrations across multiple programs.
Football: Mustangs Battle Delaware Valley in a Thriller
The Stevenson football team put together one of its most complete offensive showings of the season but came up just short in a 41–38 heartbreaker against Delaware Valley at James Work Memorial Stadium.
The Mustangs dominated much of the contest, outgaining the Aggies 399–361 through 3 quarters and holding the ball for more than 41 minutes. Senior running back Louis Clouser carried the load with 168 yards and a touchdown on 33 carries, while quarterback Jordan Adams added 52 rushing yards, a score, and an 11-yard touchdown pass to Ryan McClain.
Stevenson led 38–21 late in the third quarter following touchdowns from Giuliano Scavetta, Clouser, and Seth Parker, but Delaware Valley mounted a late rally to escape with the win. Defensively, Daryus Henderson and Darius Jones combined for 15 tackles in a strong effort. The Mustangs finished with 268 rushing yards, 28 first downs, and a perfect 5-for-5 mark in the red zone.
Men’s Soccer: Mustangs Split a Pair of Conference Battles
The Stevenson men’s soccer team (9-4-2, 3-0-1 MACC) earned a 3–2 comeback victory over Eastern before dropping a close 1–0 battle to conference rival Messiah.
Against Eastern, Gianfranco Vitella sparked the second-half surge with a penalty kick in the 66th minute, and Gaston Magrinat-Valdes netted back-to-back goals just minutes apart to secure the win. Ellis Amo, Tyler Wood, and Carter Gourley provided assists, while Nolen Olson-Warwick made four saves.
In the matchup against Messiah, the Mustangs held the Falcons to a single goal in the 30th minute. Olson-Warwick again stood tall with four saves, and defenders Wood, Jacob Greene, and Landon Eaton anchored a tough back line. Stevenson generated several quality chances but couldn’t find the equalizer in a 1–0 loss.
Field Hockey: Ranked Mustangs Continue to Roll
The No. 20 Stevenson field hockey team continued its stellar season with back-to-back victories, first edging York (Pa.) 1–0 before earning a dominant 3–0 road win over Alvernia.
Against York, Lauren Tobin broke through in the 37th minute for the game’s lone goal, while Jordan Vradenburgh earned the shutout with two saves.
At Alvernia, the Mustangs struck early as Tobin scored just over a minute into the match off a feed from Coco Wallace. Shae Bennett and Kailen Hibshman added second-half goals, while Vradenburgh earned her 14th win and third shutout of the year. The Mustang defense—led by Sarah Bisson, Sydney Aylward, and Lauren Schulz—allowed only one shot on goal.
Women’s Soccer: Defensive Grit Against Top Competition
The Stevenson women’s soccer team (7-3-5, 3-1-0 MACC) fought through a challenging week, falling 1–0 to Eastern before showing resilience against nationally No. 5-ranked Messiah.
In the matchup with Eastern, Stevenson held a 9–8 edge in total shots but conceded the lone goal in the 17th minute. Isabella Pecunes led the offense with three shots, while Isabella Serano made four saves.
Against Messiah, the Mustangs turned in a valiant defensive effort. Serano was spectacular, posting a career-high 17 saves—11 in the first half alone—while defenders Katelyn Lacey, Laurel Hutchins, and Madison Rytina held firm. Despite two late goals from the Falcons, Stevenson’s determination and defensive structure were evident throughout.
Women’s Volleyball: Senior Day Drama at Owings Mills
The Stevenson women’s volleyball team capped Senior Day with a rollercoaster doubleheader, falling to nationally ranked Lynchburg before rallying for a dramatic five-set win over Rutgers–Camden.
In the opener, the Mustangs dropped a 3–0 decision to Lynchburg (25–10, 25–15, 25–21) but showed steady improvement across the match. Giulia Viglietta, Rachel Lenz, and Sydney Salazar paced the offense, while Isabella Terra and Lilly Eichelberger anchored the defense.
The nightcap featured a comeback for the ages. Stevenson cruised to a 25–9 first-set win, stumbled in the next two frames, then stormed back to take sets four and five (25–16, 15–9). Lenz and Viglietta led a balanced attack, combining for clutch kills down the stretch, while Declyn Tooze and Courtney Foose set the tone offensively. Terra posted 19 digs, and Eichelberger sparked multiple scoring runs from the service line to secure the Senior Day victory.
