Each year, the Office of Residence Life organizes a housing selection process that gives returning residents an opportunity to control with whom and where they will be living and for the upcoming year, said Jeanne Sevigny, director of housing operations.

All steps of the housing selection process must be completed in order to ensure a spot in the residence halls. To be eligible, students must be in good financial and judicial standing with the university. They must also meet all housing selection deadlines and be registered as full-time student for fall 2016, taking no less than twelve credits per semester in order to live on campus.

The Housing Selection deadlines include an Intent to Return & Emergency Contact Form, which was due Feb. 29 by 4 p.m., a $200 Housing Deposit and signed 2016-2017 Housing Contract, which is due March 11 by 4 p.m., and the Roommate Formation Card, which is due March 24 by 4 p.m.

No roommates? No problem. The Residence Hall Association will hold a Roommate Social on March 7 at 8 p.m. in which current residents can meet other students and complete their roommate group. Once a group submits all their forms, lottery numbers and times will be sent to the students’ SU email.

The process is based on seniority, availability, and luck, Sevigny said. During housing selection, one representative of the roommate group will come to the Ratcliffe Center and on behalf of the group, they will choose where they would like to live, depending on availability.

Rising seniors have first choice on April 11. Rising juniors will choose on April 18. Finally, rising sophomores choose on April 25. Mixed class groups might influence lottery times. Commuters who will be shifting to residents and students with incomplete groups do not participate in housing selections but will be placed in available spaces.
