’47 House to host business mixer

Stevenson University’s ’47 House, the integrated marketing communications club, will host a business mixer on March 2 from 6-8 p.m. in the Rockland banquet hall. The event will allow all students to practice their business networking skills with real professionals.

While Stevenson is accustomed to providing its students with many networking events, this will be the first business mixer that ’47 House is hosting.

Stephanie Verni, advisor to the club, is optimistic regarding the potential turn out. Verni suggested that students dress in business casual attire, as there will be seven business professionals attending the mixer.

“It says something about our university that when I email professionals and ask them to attend something like this, they come,” said Verni.

EVENT INFORMATION

The event will begin with a social period, allowing students the opportunity to mingle and talk with the business professionals. Then a professional panel will address guests, offering information about where they work, and what skills they use every day in their field of business.

These professionals include Emily Maranto from the Baltimore Orioles, Tim Pyle from MASN, Anthony Verni from Comcast Spotlight, Chris Daley of Maroon PR, Latika Noel Hassell from L Noel Events, Anne Stringer from Stanley Black and Decker and Aaron Harris from Stevenson University TV.

The mixer will also feature have a dessert bar featuring candy, cookies, coffees, teas and even a signature drink for students to enjoy while mingling with professionals. There will also be two door prizes, the first is a business book and the second is a padfolio.

This mixer is the perfect opportunity to meet with professionals to form business relationships in a casual manner, without the pressure of a formal interview. Senior business communication major, Angelina Devairakkam, agreed, “It’s really beneficial to all majors. We’re speaking to professionals who are doing what could possibly be our career.”

Events such as this one allow students to expand their contacts and offer direct interaction with a variety of professionals. Students who are interested in learning about what skills are used daily within the work force could benefit from this event.
